Plain Language training

The Plain Writing Act of 2010 requires Federal agencies to use plain language on web sites and other documents written for and to the public. But everyone can benefit from learning how to communicate plainly.

Press Here offers Plain language training for Federal and non-Federal clients based on the training created by the Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN). The principal trainer, Jana Goldman, was a PLAIN trainer before she left the Federal government in March 2013.

A variety of trainings are available --

-- Basic Plain language (this is based on the Principles of Plain Language created by PLAIN) - 3 hours
-- Executive/Manager training -- 1 hour
-- Specific training -- punctuation, parts of speech, other topics upon request

Each training uses writing examples from your office or organization. Workshop participants will complete writing exercises during the training. Workbooks and other materials specifically for your office or organization are created for each participant. If requested, each participant also receives a certificate of completion. Press Here also analyses participants' feedback and sends the results to the organizer.

Some comments from Federal Plain Language workshop participants:

"(Jana is) very personable, funny and engaging"
"Somehow, Jana was able to make this class fun and interesting! Great job!"
"Super helpful! Lots of great & relevant information"
"Training was clear and to the point"
